Sauna Is Part of Finnish Identity
The traditional Finnish wood-heated sauna needs no further introduction. Sauna is an essential part of Finnish identity, and along with the blue riverside scenery and birch trees, a Finnish wood sauna naturally belongs.
In Finland, there are estimated to be around two million saunas.
Sauna Etiquette
The basic etiquette in the sauna is to remove your clothes before entering. It’s also recommended to take a shower beforehand. Other than that, there aren’t many rules. You can enjoy the steam for as long as it feels comfortable, and in between, you can cool off outside, in the changing room, or in the shower.
Is Sauna for Everyone?
Almost everyone in Finland enjoys the sauna – from babies to grandparents. There are no age limits for sauna bathing. However, if you have any health concerns, it’s always best to consult your doctor before going to the sauna.
